Pie Graphs

Today we did more in statistics we  learn about pie graphs. We learnt how it's easier to compare but they definitely have there cons. They can't hold large amount of data without being hard to read. And it's not possible to show hows accurate the data is based on how many people took the survey. This activity has definitely changed my opinion on pie graphs, in future I will definitely be mindful of things like this.

  1. Hi Zaeeda,

I think the biggest conclusion I can make from reading your slides (which were fantastic), is the importance of giving enough information about a graph. A common trend within the flawed graphs was the lack of a clear title and data. Let's say I interview room four maths about your favourite colour. It would be inaccurate to say "people's favourite colours" or even "intermediate school students favourite colour" because our sample is too small to make a claim like that. Our title needs to be really clear so we know what the graph is actually recording. I especially noticed that with the graph titled "animals". This could be some peoples favourite animals or even the number of animals owned by a family. Then theres the question of why are there so many goats? Do these people have a goat farm and breed cats? Do they live rurally and all have a pet goat? Theres a lot more to graphs than meets the eye, I agree.
