Zaeeda-SLJ-Week 1 Day 4

Thursday, December 17, 2020

Welcome back, to day 4 of the Summer Learning Journey. I'm glad you're here with us as we complete 2 new activities. I had a lot of fun doing these unique and creative tasks, I especially enjoyed the Rise-Up challenge.

Activity 1: Rise Up
For this task we were asked to compose the chorus of the song. If possible we were also asked to record it. I enjoyed writing this song very much however, I wasn't able to record it due to complications.

Activity 2: Te Reo Maori
This was a bit easy, and I didn't really find it much of a challenge. However it was still fun to do and practicing Te Reo is always important

That concludes day 4 of the summer learning journey. I'm enjoying the Holidays a lot. Keep safe and have a Merry Christmas!

Zaeeda-SLJ- Day 3 Week 1

Wednesday, December 16, 2020

It's day 3 of the Summer Learning Journey. We have 2 activities to complete today and I'm excited to complete them to a high standard of course. Enjoy!

Activity 1: Optical Illusion
Optical illusions are visual pictures, that our eyes, perceive differently from what the reality is. Optical Illusion make our eyes, see things differently, it's to do with color, the movement of an image, or the appearance of a 2D image looking 3D these are all optical illusions.

Optical illusions have a lot to do with the brain. As the whole illusion is just our mind tricking itself. There are three main types of Optical Illusions those are literal illusions, physiological illusions and cognitive illusions.

For this task we had to, create our own optical illusion. We could create it either online or draw it using pencil and paper. I enjoyed this task it was tricky though  because, I'm not the best at drawing. However I tried my best and created, this picture. It's the classic hypnosis curl!

Activity 2: Tanerore

Fort this task, we got to do a bit of Te reo learning. It was a lot of fun, being in New Zealand, means we live in a country with a with a rich Maori heritage. We learnt heaps about Te-Reo Maori at Pt England and I'm glad to be extending my knowledge during the holidays. Through this task I was able to learn quite a bit.

Here is my kowhaiwhai. New beginnings, growth and harmony, taken from the symbolism of fern leaf before bloom, represnts by the koru. New Zealand has some of the most beautiful ferns in the world, there are around 200 different speices!

Today's task was a lot of fun and I very much enjoyed it. I can't wait to do more!

Zaeeda-SLJ- Day 1 Week 1

Monday, December 14, 2020

This year, despite it being the end of my time at Pt England, I am going to take part in the Summer Learning Journey. To keep my learning UP! I'm excited to see what the creators have in store for us this time!

Activity 1: Your Comments Count
Blog Commenting, is a way for us to re-act to some of the amazing work people share with us. During lock-down blog commenting was something we had to do quite regularly because it helped us stay connected. However there are certain things you must remember when, Commenting on Blogs.

For this task we were asked to craft a well written blog comment. Which we would then leave on someones blog. I enjoyed this task a lot because it's something we continuously practice in our class as well.

Here is my blog comment. I started with a greeting, there was no need for an introduction because, I know this person in real life. I then started by complimenting his work. I then pointed out something specific to post. I related to his work and I also asked 2 questions in order to be helpful. I finished with a formal goodbye and wrote my name.

Here is a link to Valeli's blog. Check it out

This brings us to the end of day 1. I enjoyed commenting on peoples blogs and will surely continue to do so. I loved how this activity allowed us to practice our cyber-smart skills.

Term 4 Extension Research

This term we our theme was art alive. And in yr 7 & 8 Extension we looked at the different aspects of art. It was quite, interesting and I was in the 'Art Historians' group. This meant I got to look at what they, do some famous art historians and I got to look at different artists too. I learnt a lot more than I originally thought I would.

Term 4 DLO, Extension :)

The theme for Term 4 was Art Alive. So as usual in extension we focused on a certain area of Art. Our task was to create, a digital art work that reflects aspects of Kiwiana. Which is iconic New Zealand item, such as Pohutakawa, Harakeke and L&P. We also had to add, items that reflect our culture, and our family heritage,

My artwork is something that reflects me and my lifestyle. Because, I decided to put to beaches and kind of create a harbor like effects. But 1 side of the beach is, covered with things from fiji. We’ve got palm trees and turtles and a rocky tropical landscape in the background. If you look closely enough you can see that the turtles shell on the beach has Fijian patterns on it.

Next time I would like to think about, changing the layout and making the page landscape. I would also like to,  have placed everything a bit better. I am quite proud of the shading on the harakeke though. Overall I think that this piece of art was done well. And I enjoyed making it!

In The Bag

Today we had maths and in maths we looked at probability yet again. This lesson was pretty chill and easy and we got to play a game and go out and play with a parachute afterwards. This task required us to go around and randomly draw out some cubes and guess the different coloured ratio. E.g 1:5 (1 pink 5 whites).

Conserve and Protect

This week in literacy we looked at biodiversity loss. Last week we got our slides and our task was to basically complete the tasks and create task. After completing that we got the task of writing a info graph about conserving and protecting our biodiversity. All of these tips came from an article from David Attenborough.

Edvard Munch ~Art Alive~

This term we are learning about different artists. Today we learnt about. An artist called Edvard Munch. He was born in Norway a long time ago and became famous for a piece called 'The Scream'. We had to create a poster about him and his artwork. I found this artist very interesting because he his mood was incorporated into his art which made it fun to try and figure out what he was trying to portray in his different paintings.

Alberto Giacometti ~Art Alive~

This term we are doing art rotations. In room 2 we learnt about Alberto Giacometti, his nationality is Swiss and he lived for 65 years. We looked at his biography and tried to interpret what he was portraying in his sculptures. We then got the task of choosing 2 art pieces of our choice and writing our initial reaction to it.

Term 4 Art Alive

This week is the first week of Term 4. And like always were had an immersion assembly and thankfully the fact that we were in level 1 meant that the whole school could come together again. Our theme for this term is Art Alive.

In Team 5 this term we will be learning about different artists and different types of art. I really enjoyed the play the team 5 teachers put on it was very interesting and had many different aspects of art. I especially enjoyed that Mr Hughes actually spoke in spanish and english for his art introduction and I was able to understand both languages. :))

This term I am really excited to learn about art and hopefully improve. I'm hope that we get to try many different kinds of art styles. I've wanted to do art in school for a while because both the process and finished project always look very interesting and tell some kind of story.

Sebastião Salgado

Today we learnt about another artist. This one actually did photography. His name is Sebastião Salgado. Learnt about him and what he did as a photographer we also got a chance to go out and take a picture of something we thought needed more attention. I enjoyed this as I too am deeply interested in photography and have been for a while. :)

Ngā Tau ~Te Reo Maori~

Today we had our first Te Reo Maori lesson for the term. It was a lot of fun and we had learnt how to count in Maori. This was one of the things I had already learnt when I was in year 3 but it was fun to recap and it helped finish the task quickly. I did enjoy this and can't wait to do more :))

Effects of Plastic Pollution

Here is my create task for my reading task. We learnt about plastic pollution and in the end we had to create a poster to share the effects of plastic pollution. I added in a bit of extra stuff like how we can stop it because, I think it's important we learn about what plastic pollution is and how we can begin to reduce it :))
