Zaeeda-WLJ-# Week 2 Day 4 (Taking Action)

Week 2 Day 4: Taking Action
Today we are going to be learning about people who did some amazing things all to make prove a point. This was because they had a dream and believed that they could achieve their dream, and change things for the better!

Activity 1: A Long Walk To Freedom
Nelson Mandela is an civil rights leader and an activist. He was born and raised in south-Africa. South Africa had a political system called Apartheid, for over 40 years from 1948-1991. This meant that they had different rules and customs, South-Africa had different rules for people with lighter skin.

Nelson Mandela didn't feel to well about this, and thinks that everybody should be treated equally. Fortunately, Nelson Mandela became president and put an end to Apartheid. He changed the political system for the better, but this wasn't before he went through some hard times. Mandela spent 27 years in jail before this.

Mandela 18 years in Robben Island Prison. As you'd expect life was tough, but he got through it. Mandela spent his days breaking rocks into gravel, he was forced to work in the quarry all day long. At night he would study hard, learning to become a lawyer. He was allowed to have 1 visitor and a letter every 6 months. Life was hard!

expect life was tough, but he got through it. Mandela spent his days breaking rocks into gravel, he was forced to work in the quarry all day long. At night he would study hard, learning to become a lawyer. He was allowed to have 1 visitor and a letter every 6 months. Life was hard!

This is my letter,  I did have some trouble as I have no idea what jail is like. I have never even seen a jail in real life. So this did take some time and a really good
imagination.

That brings us to an end of another day. Only a couple more days left in these holidays. I can't wait for school to start up again. There were so many things we haven't gotten around to doing so I bet that this term is going to be one rollercoaster of a ride. And I'm looking forward to it!

Zaeeda-WLJ-#Week 2 Day 3 (Dear Jacinda)

Week 2 Day 3: Dear Jacinda
We are back with another day. I really enjoyed doing this because, it allowed me to test a still in that we are also practicing in Class. It was also the right amount of challenge. <3

Activity 3: 'Dear Jacinda'
For this task we were allowed to choose a topic that affects our country. We then had to research and write a letter to Jacinda Adern addressing this problem. This task was heaps of fun, especially since I have an interest in politics!

Dear Jacinda Adern
I am writing to inform you about the pollution problem, not just in the world but happening in our local communities. Our schools, beaches and streets are flooded with rubbish. No matter how many pieces we pick up, and how often we clean up. Rubbish continues to get everywhere!

Our locals, are not the main problem anymore as they now know that it’s not good to pollute. However when our trash cans are overflowing and the wind is blowing. Rubbish gets everywhere!
This rubbish is harm our environment and will continue to ma major problems.

  1. Our gardens and that won’t help the plant
  2. Float out to sea and hurt our sea creature
  3. It can fly everywhere and get stuck in the drain gutter and even get blown into the shop

I suggest we should do something about it urgently. Here is my solution.
Step: 1 We could empty the bins more often because this would help the bins from overflowing and it would make the community look much neater and it wouldn’t hurt our environment.
Step: 2 We could have bins, in which we sort the rubbish. That way we could have our plastic, waste and recyclable rubbish in one place. I know that this would help because Pt England have started a Bincurity team that help the student of Pt England School recycle and sort their rubbish into 3 different bins

  1. The black lidded bin where we put our soft plastic like chip packets and glad wrap
  2. The Yellow lidded bin where we put hard plastic card board and clean paper we also put in thing with the recycling sign in it
  3. The red lidded bin were we put waste the thing we don’t want and don’t put in the other bins like fruit skins and wet and gross things

Step: 3 We should also get more bins, more bins means more space to put rubbish in and less chance of rubbish overflowing

That is my solution I trust you are capable of putting this plan into action. In saying I hope that you will give me the time of day to read this, and that we can do something about this rubbish harming our planet because I care about the enviroment, we need to do something other than talk we need action. Please Help!

 Kind Regards Zaeeda

Zaeeda-WLJ- # Week 2 Day 2 (Wominjeka)

Week 2
Day 2: Wominjeka

It's the second day of week two, and we have another activity. For this task we had to use our maths skills. I really enjoyed today it was just the right amount of challenging and it was some different!

Activity 2: Rights and Wrongs
For this task we were asked to find out how old Dr Jessa Rogers was when she received the award. She was born on 7 April 1985 and she received the award on 9 July 2010.

Dr Jessa Rogers - NCIS - ANUJessica became the first school principal and youngest (Aboriginal principal in Australia). She was the principal of a school in the far-north of Queenstown, Cape York Girl Academy for young mums and babies. Jessica was rewarded with the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award in 2010, has gone on to win many more awards and write several books all because her work has improved several indigenous educations.

The answer to this mathematical question is 25 year 3 months and 2 days old. I know this because....

Equation) 2010-1985=25

So we know that she was 25 years old. I then added on months to the date, because that's how long it's been after her birthday and how long it's been after she turn 25 years old.

April + 3 months = June
7 April + 2 days= 9th April
So in total we have 25 years 3 months and 2 days old.
So Jessica was 25 year 3 months and 2 days old when she received the award.

That brings us to an end of day 2, of week too. This is the last week of the holidays :(. I'm looking forward to school; kind of. But for now, let's finish these activities to the best possible, standards we can.

Zaeeda-WLJ-# Week 2 Day 1 (Kia Ora)

Week 2
Day 1: Taking The Lead!
I'm back with another amazing day doing the winter learning journey @ team 5. It's week 2 and this week we will  be focusing on people who have tried to make a change through activism and politics. the

Activity 1:Playing Favorites
For this task we were asked to name 5 things we like to do. We then had to take pictures of us doing those things. I had fun both doing this task and the activities I enjoy doing.

Barack Obama was the USA's president from 2009-2017. Barack Obama, was the first USA President to be first African-America. He was born in Hawaii with a father from Kenya-Africa and an American Mother. His parents separated when he was young and his father died when he was 21 years old.

Barack Obama, met his wife when her studied law at university. Together Barack and Michelle looked for way to help adults and help other in there community. Barack and Michelle are usually doing there favorite things when there not working. this includes spending time with their family, playing with their dog, or going to the gym.

That ends the first day of the second week doing the winter learning journey. Had heaps of fun and this weeks one of my favorite topics. I can't wait to continue learning these holidays.

Zaeeda-WLJ-#Day 5

Day 5
Today is the last day of the Winter Learning Journey. I've enjoyed this week and have had a lot of fun. Today's tasks were quite fun today!

Activity 1
For this activity we had to share 3 quotes that our family have said from about getting back to school in level 2.

This first quote if about being back at school. Just because it's not lockdown anymore we should still continue to learn and grow and keep going. I don't really know about you guys, but for me especially lockdown was a really important time in which I reflected upon myself. After lockdown I had a fresh start and I got to restart things that I hadn't done very well in. I kept going and kept growing. Also remember It's important to do your best!
It's important to take care of yourself.  When your feeling down find one good thing to smile about it. It's the number one solution to any bad day. It can be for any reason. But I promise that it will make both you and the person next to you live a happier day.

This one relates to a quote my family said during lockdown which was "Sunshine is yet to shine on this cloudy day" we said that because, we were all waiting for the good news of, NO MORE LOCKDOWN to be announced which was going to be our sunshine. But now we speak of it as pass tense. This quote also relate to the fact that lockdown wasn't all that bad. New friendships were made but overall we became better as a community.

Bonus Activities
We had to come up with a message that we'd send to everyone in Aotearoa. It has to be 10 words at the most.

We also had to choose 3 emojis to show how we found this week.
👌😎😐

I chose the ok hand as, my holidays and the winter learning journey has been okay. There wasn't anything that has made this holiday the best ever. But we still have one more whole week.

I also chose the emoji with the sun glasses. Because these activities were decently easy and I cruised through them, which gave me enough time to relax and just chill these holidays.

The last emoji just means that, I'm waiting for something else, something to make this holiday just a little bit more entertaining.  As you can see I'm a little bit underwhelmed right now. I hope you enjoyed this weeks WLJ activites!

Zaeeda-WLJ- Day 3 (Fast As)

Day 3: Fast As
Here is another day worth of activities. Today we have an activity that was quite different. I don't think I've seen this activity before. But let's try our best anyways. Activity 1: Faster than a speeding bullet
For this activity we had to create 4 new similes.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a world famous athlete, famous for sprints. She won the record for the 100m sprint and was crowned the “world’s fastest woman”.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce exclusive interview... on feminism ...Shelly-Ann was born and went to school in Jamaica, which is a small country in the caribbean. During her college years she was a good athlete. She won the Jamaican Schools Championships at the age of 16. She went on to win many races at both the olympics and world championships. Many people have compared her running speed to people like Usain Bolt and even animals! When people make these comparisons, they often say things like: “Shelly-Ann is as fast as a cheetah” or “Shelly-Ann is fast like a fighter jet”. Image Website
A Simile is when you compare something to something else. E.g The House is as tall as a skyscraper. Here are my similies!
1. The tree is as tall as a mountain
2. My hands are as cold as ice
3. She's as sweet as honey
4. I'm as busy as a bee

Today was fun, I did learn something new. But I'm sure that I've heard similes before.

Zaeeda-WLJ-#Day 2 (Tusitala)

Day 2: Tusitala
Today's task was really fun and neutrally challenging. I enjoyed this activity, and didn't find this as challenging because I had completed a task like this for the winter learning journey.

Activity 1: Big Friendly GiantOur task was to describe what we imagine the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) looks, smells, sounds like. In the begging I got stuck with this task but I made it in the end.

The big friendly giant is a book written by Roald dahl. He was a british writer, fighter pilot, spy, and inventor. But he was mostly known to be the amazing author of dozens of kids books. He wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, George's Marvelous Medicine, The Twits, Matilda and so many others.
In all of his books he has plenty of fascinating creatures. Some of the most vicious evil spine chilling villains and the kind, warm hearted heros. He had also an awesome vocabulary to describe these characters. He created words himself words like Scrumdiddlyumptious, catasterous disastrophe, sizzle pan, bundongle, churgle, darksome, snozzcumber, frumpet, gollup, grunches, and mideous. Here is my description of the BFG!

The BFG was a calm and friendly giant. He had a warm smile and he was swift whilst he collected the children's dreams every night for as long as anyone can remember. He was like a sweet old man the kind that would invite you into his house, and give to cookies and show you pictures of his grandchildren.

Every night after collecting the dreams he would attentively, recording the dreams on piece of paper. The old fragile creature, would meticulously labeled each bottle. Sorting them in a careful manner.

This activity was mildly challenging I had fun doing this task. But it was definitely fun I'm looking forward to doing more. ALOT MORE!

Zaeeda-WLJ-#Day 1 (Kia Ora)

Day 1: Kia Ora These holidays our amazing teachers in team 5 have created a series of Holiday blogging activities for us to complete. Everyday I will be posting an activity, explaining what we had to do and so on.

Activity 1: Exploring Your Roots
For this task we had to create our own pepeha. We got a template and a site to use for this activity. I enjoyed this task and it was definitely easy, in future I hope we get to do more challenging tasks.

Here is my pepeha, I differen't really know what else to add to it. Because it's a really basic thing, and I'm proud to know mine. This task was exceptionally easy because, the teachers at school encourage us to learn things like our mihi and pepeha.

This activity was inspired by a famous New Zealand Director. His name is Taika Waititi. Not only is he an actor but he is also a Filmmaker, Director, Actor and Comedian. He has create/directed many popular films like, "Hunt for the Wilderpeople and "Jojo Rabbit". As a child Taika Waititi lived in Raukokore. When he graduated from high school Taika Waititi moved to Wellington and studied drama at Victoria University.

Even though he moved away he didn't forget his roots. No matter what he didn't forget where he came from and who his family is. Taika Waititi come from a family for of different Diversities culturally. His dad is Māori (Te Whānau-a-Apanui) and his mother is Russian-Jewish.
Today was fun, I'm looking forward to doing more the activities for the days ahead, but I do hope the these tasks get more challenging.

Zaeeda-ELJ-#Day 5 (It's Friday)

Day: 5 (It's Friday)
Well we've officially finished a week of the summer learning journey and there is only one more week

Activity
For this task we had to find three different quotes from our family that we found helpful. We then had to share and explain these quotes on our blog.

The first quote is based on us facing Corona virus, it's about how this is a tough challenge. And we have been faced with this challenge because it is believed that we can overcome it. It also mildly relates to how we should stick together and get through this together.

This one isn't as poet is the last one. But I found that it was quote emotional. It's basically means it's okay to show you are scared as long as you are able to somewhat work through it. My little sister was the one that actually said this, and it wasn't even to one of our family members it was to one of her toys.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this one before. My mum probably read it in a magazine or something, because this one seems familiar. I guess it's about seeing the silver line in any situation and that we'll be okay soon.

Extra Activity
For this activity we had to come up with a text that we would send to everybody in New Zealand, right now.

Here is my text, it's not to long. But I hope that it will help some New Zealanders have comfort.

Especially since we have to be apart, sending something somewhat heart-warming will hopefully keep us together. At a time like this anything is good, and should be done. Also I already have said this to most of the people and I just want you guys to stay safe take care and wash your hands!

Room Decorating

Today, I got really bored and my mum had told me to clean my room. So whilst I was doing that, I found various pieces of paper. I finished cleaning my room and with the scrap piece of paper I turned into origami hearts. (I have a habit of doing that) But after I had finished I had lots of origami hearts, so I taped it to string and TA-DA I was given a new way to decorate my room. Enjoy!

The True Story (Three Little Pigs)

Once there lived a wolf he had a reputation of being the baddest animal in the forest but for real he was a big old cushion. One day the wolf was taking a walk when he got sprayed by one of the alergi flower alergi flowers make anyone sneeze at whatever the smell. That night the wolf found out that his grandmother was sick. So the next day he was made a cake for her to make her feel loved. The wolf got to work he started making the batter when he saw he had no sugar.

So he went to his neighbor's house the little pig to ask for some. At that time the little pig had just finished building his house. The wolf knocked on the door and said ‘’ little pig little pig let me in’’ the little pig answered ‘’ not by the hair of my chiny chin chin’’. Outside by the door a bit of hay fell on his snout a and because of the alergi flowers it made him sneeze.

‘’AAAAAA CCCCCC HHHHHH OOOOOO’’…….. The house of hay had blown away because of the wolf’s courages sneeze. There on the ground lay the little pig dead, the wolf said to himself ‘’ we don’t want this pig to go to waste’’ he went of to the pig and ate the pig.

But the wolf still didn’t have his sugar. So he moved over to his next neighbor. He walked up to the wood house and knocked on the door ‘’ little pig little pig let me in’’ the little pig answered ‘’ Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin ‘’ that’s when the dust from next door blew right past the wolf snout.

Once again a humongous sneeze came AAAAAA CCCCCC HHHHHH OOOOOO……….. It blew over the house with tiny glimpse of the sneeze the house collapsed and again on the ground was a dead pig.

Once again the wolf said to himself ‘’ we must not let this feast fit for a king go to waste but he wasn’t alone when he ate the second pig next door there also lived a pig and he had misapprehend and called the police right away.

The wolf finished his feist and still had know sugar so he went to the next neighbour. He knocked on the door and said once again ‘’little pig little pig let me in’’ the little pig helped ‘’ not by the hair of my chiny chin chin no leave before I call the authority . Just as he as the wolf turned around to leave a blue birds feather came down and tickled the wolf snout then ‘’AAAAAA CCCCC CCCCC AHHHHHH OOOOOOOO’’…….

But this time nothing happened the brick house still standing exactly where it was the ‘’ FREEZE WITH YOUR HANDS UP. They took the wolf to the station and was charged he had to spend his whole life in jail. The wolf tried to explain what happened but the police didn't listen. When the reporters found out they thought the story wasn’t really real so they jazzed it up and made the story of the three little pigs.

That’s the original story of the three little pigs.

Cinderella Character's

Everyone knows what happens to Cinderella at the end of the fairytale. They lived happily ever after, but what really happened. What happened to the step family the dad the fairy godmother well don’t worry cause today I will be telling you just that!

First up, let's talk about the wicked stepmother. She isn’t the nicest person you met but is she truly evil. Cinderella’s stepmother was the worst part of her life because the step mother made her do all the housework. She then didn’t allow her to go to the ball so she wasn’t the nicest person. But when Cinderella moved to her palace what happened to her. Well she was left with in the house and was allowed to visit Cinderella daily if wanted. She was also given some money as a gift from Cinderella’s kind heart.

The second person we are going to talk about is the oldest evil step sister. After learning from Cinderella she decided that she wasn’t going to be mean or evil as that’s not what the world is made of. She learnt to love and now has a family of her own. She fell in love with their local baker and now enjoys living her life in the town.

The youngest step sister is still the evil step mothers knew Cinderella. As there is no one else to do the housework cooking the youngest step sister that only one left. But it kind of serves her right after what she used to do to Cinderella.

Now that we’ve talked about the step family we should focus on Cinderella’s dad. He married Cinderella’s stepmother and kind of ruined her life. He went on a world tour and left her back with the step family. On his journey he experiences many things at some point. He is now retired and living with his wife in the same house.

The next person we are going to talk about is Cinderella’s Fairy godmother. One of the most important characters. Without her Cinderella would have never made it to the ball and never danced with the prince. But where is she now does she have her own happily ever after? That a good question and sadly I don’t have the answer to that.

That was pretty much all of the characters in this story. What other fairy tale would you like to here about. I honestly I think it’s weird that only on the princes and princesses only get a happily ever after. What do you think?

Cinderella Story time

Once upon a time there lived a rich man. He had a beautiful daughter, her name was Ella. One day Ella 's mother died. Ella was heartbroken. After a few days Ella's father decided to get married again. When Ella's new family moved in, Ella's father went to explore the world. Ella's stepmother was not kind, she was mean and horrid. She brought her daughters with her when she moved in.

Ella was forced to do all the housework and chores. The worst thing about it all was that as soon as Ella would finished something another thing would be waiting for. Her Step Family didn’t do a thing to help.

In the evening  Ella would sit by the cinders and ashes to rest and keep warm. Whenever the sister saw her they would mock her and call her Cinderella as she would always sit by the cinders and ashes from the fire.

One day when Cinderella went to get the mail she saw an invitation. When the sister saw Cinderella reading the invitation they snatched it off her and took it to their mother. After they took it to their mother she started reading the invitation to herself. The mother read the invitation. The stepsisters started jumping up and down. The old one said “Cinderella can make us all new a dress. The other sisters said “I heard the Prince is looking for a wife”. So it began Cinderella had to do all the housework and cooking along with getting her step family ready for the ball. Of course she was not allowed to go with them.

On the night of the grand ball Cinderella helped her stepsisters get dressed. She gave them manicures pedicures and everything else you do to get ready for a special occasion. The time came when the stepsisters and stepmother left for the palace. Cinderella slowly walked back to the fireplace and sat down where she always did by the cinders and ashes.

When Cinderella sat by the cinders and ashes tears began to fall down her cheeks. Suddenly a kind looking woman appeared. The woman very nicely dressed and had wings allowing her to fly and hover about Cinderella’s head.

Cinderella's fairy godmother has appeared! “Hello darling I am your fairy godmother, I am here to help you get to the Grand Ball” she said in the sweetest voice you could imagine. She went into the garden followed by Cinderella and tapped an enormous pumpkin and immediately it turned into a  beautiful coach and six grey mice turned into six grey horses to pull the coach. But there was one more problem left Cinderella didn't have anything to wear to the ball.
So Cinderella 's fairy God tapped her on the shoulder and soon Cinderella was wearing the most beautiful gown in the land. But Cinderella's fairy god mother told her that she had to be back at midnight as everything will turn back to what it once was. Cinderella didn’t think much of it and took of to the ball.

When Cinderella walked into the ball all the ladies and gentlemen were stunned by Cinderella's beauty. When Cinderella got to the bottom of the steps the Prince came and took her hand asking her to dance. The music began and Cinderella and the Prince danced all night. The stepmother and stepsister stayed in the side wondering who the beautiful woman was. We green with jealousy as Cinderella danced the night away.

Cinderella was having such fun that she lost track of time. Soon the chimes for midnight finally rolled around and Cinderella ran out of the palace not thinking about what will happen if she stayed a second longer. As she was rushing through the palace one of her glass slippers were left behind. Soon the Prince stumbled upon it. The Prince called his royal entourage and ordered them to travel the land and look for the woman who fit the slipper.

The very next day the Prince and his servants set off to find the woman who fits the slipper.
When the Prince and the servant came to Cinderella's house, Cinderella’s step mother locked her in a room after tricking her into thinking something she needed was in their. But thanks to the little mice friends Cinderella has was little mice who stole the key from the Stepmother they free her just in time.

Cinderella’s mother tried to force the sisters  big feet inside the little slipper, and failed terribly. When Cinderella got out of her room she was asked to try the slipper and the sisters burst out with laughter. The servant went to Cinderella. But as he was walking to Cinderella he was tripped by the evil stepmother as he fell and hit the ground the glass slipper broke into thousands of pieces.

Cinderella slowly took out the other glass slipper and said maybe this can help. So when she sat down to try it on, well it was the perfect fit. The servants took her to the palace where the Prince was waiting. When she got there the Prince asked her to marry him and they lived happily ever after.

The End
