Kei hea a? ~ Te Reo Maori~

Today we had one of our last Te Reo Maori Lessons for the year. It was a lot of fun and a fairly easy task. I worked with Mamarei to create a poster that had names of places in New Zealand in Te Reo. Enjoy :))

Ngā Tau ~Te Reo Maori~

Today we had our first Te Reo Maori lesson for the term. It was a lot of fun and we had learnt how to count in Maori. This was one of the things I had already learnt when I was in year 3 but it was fun to recap and it helped finish the task quickly. I did enjoy this and can't wait to do more :))

The Hydrosphere

Here is what we learnt about in home room this week on Friday. We learnt about the Hydrosphere, which relates to our term wide theme We Are the World. I am enjoying this pretty very much, and had fun learning about this one in specific. But it's mainly because I can tell how this one relates to the Biosphere. I also enjoyed this because it allowed me to find something from way back when and it actually helped me, remember and recognize some of the knowledge we were learning. Does the Water Cycle ring a bell, yup I learnt that in year 5 and it was SUPER FUN! so it was cool to revisit that part of my past.

The Structure Of The Earth

Today we did some inquiry. This is an extra task, that we had the choice to do. It was basically an extra task that helped us memorise the layers of the Earth aka the Geosphere. It was a fun and easy task, and it did help me remember the layers.

We Are The World

This Term we are learning about the Earth. That's a very broad topic so I'm going to explain in detail what exactly we are learning about. So millions and billions of years ago the Earth started to form, there were different parts chemicals and stuff involved. Eventually the Earth came to be habitable and started to sustain life. There are different parts to sustaining life we are learning about the Earth's "spheres". The Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Geosphere, and how they all play a role in sustaining life.

In this presentation about we learnt about the different stages and I quote "The 5 mile stones" which are important because it was those things that show the different stages the Earth went through before it was fully developed and safe to live on.

SLJ-Teaser-#Day 1

Today is the first day of the summer learning journey teaser. School isn't out yet, but the time is coming soon. We are lucky enough to be able to participate in this years summer learning journey. This teaser is to give a, small taste of what's it's like to be in the summer learning journey. Enjoy!

Task 1 New Zealand Royalty
Our First task was to create a profile page for the famous popstart Lorde. We included facts about her family, age, occupation ect. I had fun with this task, and learnt heaps about Lorde. I am most fascinated by how her talent was discovered.

I do not own the pictures and most information was found on
This Website.

Task 2 Exploring Our Roots
This task required us to make ourselves a pepeha.

Task 3
Our task was too desribe what we imagine the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) looks, smells, sounds like. In the begging I got stuck with this task but I made it in the end.

The BFG was calmly seated at the table in his homely cave, peacefully working away. The little girl Sofie, sat there with her legs crossed watching as The Big Friendly Giant carefully sorted the dreams. Sofie was fastinated as The BFG attentively, recording something on peice of paper. The old fragile creature, meteculiously labeled each bottle. "What are you doing" asked Sofie in a soft tone "Sorting the good dreams, so we can tell which one we are watching" The BFG replyed in a shaky tone.

Global Warming Is A Problem

The earth has many problems. Most of them caused by  humans, but there is one problem that was beyond the homosapines reach. Global warming, a large international problem that is getting worse day by day. Global warming is a problem and that’s today's topic!

Let’s begin with one of the most obvious reasons, the children's future. Taking the children's point of view, they can’t do much except get educated on the topic of global warming. So it’s up to adults and the ‘’powerful people’’ to do something, children have no say or insurance that they will get a better future even the future that lies ahead of you, is unsure at this point!

Which leads to my second reason, it’s not just the children getting affected it’s the bigger people too. Global warming is a huge problem, in economy. This is because “powerful people” have addressed the problem by increasing prices on items that have an affect on global warming, or sources that are being eradicated due to usage. Thus leading to a large circle of endless problems, the “powerful people” need to look at the bigger picture, and think about everyone.

Lastly,  the effects of global warming are happening faster and are getting much worse. So the whole world, is starting to crumble. The ozone layer being extracted, the uv light from the sun is getting hotter, etc.  The world needs help and it’s up to the human race. They need to stop adding to the problem, and start taking actions and precautions, working together and making a difference.

So that concludes today’s topic. I know it’s a large problem and I have said it multiple times, and this is because what I am saying it fiction but a fact.  Global warming is a large problem, and I may not have the answer to it but I do know we have to do something and fast. Global warming will continue and get worse, if you love your family and your friends should try and create a better future for EVERYONE!

Cheek Cells

Image result for cheek cellsToday in room 5  for geonomics we looked at cheek cells. This doesn't relate to our term wide theme it's just because we didn't finished the geonomics from last term so we have been continuing it this term.

We examined the cells in our cheek by, collect a sample of the saliva on our our cheek. Then applying a stain that makes it more visible. After staining it we put it under a Microscope and examined it.

I didn't expect it to look like what it did look like but I did wish we could get a closer look at it to see if the cells have the same thing as any normal cell.

But overall I did enjoy this task, I also hope we use the microscope more often and for other things. But next time I want to look at a plant cell or the cell inside fruit.
