Poetry Cinquains ~literacy~

This week in literacy we looked at cinquains. Cinquains are poems that are 5 lines long, they don't have to rhyme and the number of syllables per line changes, and goes in the order of 2,4,6,8,2. I had quite a bit of fun, but I lacked creativity and basically wrote a cinquain about the first thing that came to mind.

Piet Mondrian - Abstract Artist

This week in literacy we learnt about Piet Mondrian who is a dutch artist. We learnt about his interesting style of art and how his art changed over time. It's a lot more complicated than I thought and learning the history behind it really makes it easier to appreciate the thought process and work it took to create it. I enjoyed this task and look forward to doing more.

Loss of Biodiversity

This week we learnt about the biodiversity and what a loss of biodiversity is. It was quite interesting but even so, we were only briefly able to touch on this topic as 3 of our literacy sessions have been tests in the past 2 weeks. Here is my poster explaining what a loss of biodiversity is and the main causes of it. I found this text interesting however, it was something that I've already heard a lot about so my attitude towards it may be a bit underwhelmed.

Modern Tongan Heroes and Heroines!

This week in literacy we had a really short and easy task for reading. In Writing we wrote an country profile about Tonga to celebrate Tongan language week. For reading we kept with the theme of Tongan language week. We had to create a personal profile for a Tongan Hero or Heroine. Valerie Adams is an Amazing athlete, some say she is the most dominant athletes ever. I enjoyed this task because it was quick and easy but I still learnt quite a bit about Valerie Adams.

Rata and the Totara Tree

This morning we had a literacy google meet. We at another Maori Myth, called Rata and the Totara tree. It was about a Maori man who was looking for a tree to craft a waka for his village. He wanted to get away from the island as Tangaroa and Tawhirimatea we going to have a war which would destroy the village. Rata found a large Totara tree but forgot to follow to recite a karakia of invocation for Tane Mahuta, this lead many birds and insects to restore the tree to its original state. We had to create a storyboard which I quite enjoyed doing, because it helped me get a good idea of what happened in order. Next we had to break up a portion of a text into word groups, we then had to record ourselves reading it fluently. I had to re-record this last time so I tried extra hard to tell the story well and fluently. Next we had to do word groups, I wasn't sure how many we had to choose and use in sentences but I did two of the ones I found most interesting. We then had to do our create task we could choose 1 out of 2 activities, I decided to try making a movie review as I loved the message the clip on slide 3 explained. Overall I enjoyed this task and like how there we 2 parts to our literacy task, looking forward to doing more!

What's the point

This week in literacy we looked at fables, and how they always have a good moral. We looked at 3 different fables, The boy who cried wolf, The Lion and the Mouse and The Dinner party. We looked at the narrative mountain for each of these as well, along with that we looked at the moral of each story, I espacially like The Dinner Party, fable it was very interesting and it really made me think. This task was okay, and it has definetly prepared me for our reading and writing tests later in the week :))
