Dragon's Eye Lake

Today we looked at another, Myth. This one is from Croatia, it's about how Dragon's eye lake came to be. I really liked this story, it's quite interesting especially since, our Teacher this morning told us that, Dragons have been put into many different myths and they probably all originated from dinosaurs. The legend about the lake is also very sweet!

Today we looked at the Watcher of the South. Which is a myth from a tribe called Xhosa in Cape Town which is in South-Africa. The Myth was about A god creating the world getting injured during a fight with a sea dragon and fearing that his creation would be ruined. The gods mother then creates giants to fight of the sea dragon but they die in the process, and to help the Giants the god's mother turns them into Mountains. Greek Mythology

Today we looked at greek mythology. I really enjoyed it the only thing I slightly dislike was how vaguely we covered the topic. However it was a big topic too, I'm hoping we do more, and I like the last activity in which we got to learn about a god of our choice!

Immersion Assembly Term 3

Today is the first day back at school. It's term 3 and our theme is A World of difference. Basically we will be looking at different countries, places, cultures, foods ect.

Team 1 had a movie, about children wondering how people in different countries do things. They looked at the different foods they ate, the different things day did throughout the day and how they traveled to school and back. It was very fun to watch and they portrayed this in an interesting manner.

Team 2 also had a movie, but there movie starred Dora the Explorer. Together Dora and Boots went on an adventure around the world. As usual she used her trusty map for directions and her backpack for tools. It was fun to watch and the teachers had amazing acting!

Team 3 also had a movie, it was really interesting because they showed the seven wonders of the world in an amazing race. It was funny to watch and many people enjoyed it. I liked how they used something that we would have all recognized, and the teachers amazing acting skills.

Team 4's item was also a movie, and a movie in which a lot of food was used. Team 4 made a movie about foods from different countries. They had sushi, kebabs, chicken masala, croissant, it all looked very delicious.

Team 5 had my favourite item which was an amazing show. That was about a woman who befriended an eel that became to controlling and was killed. The eels head was buried and later sprouted into a coconut, that the woman drank from. Team 5 will be learning about Myths and how Tragedy can bring a Blessing. I'm looking forward to it, because I'm really into greek mythology and astrology!

Moari Should Be Compulsory In Schools

Should Moari Be Compulsory in Schools? I think not, who cares if it’s an official language. We won’t need it in the future. It probably won’t be useful for my future career as a neurosurgeon. Here are three reasons why Moari should not be compulsory in schools.

Firstly Maori is an official language of New Zealand, but so is sign language. So it wouldn’t be fair to just teach one official language we should teach all of them. I honestly think that sign language is more important because we can use it for more important things. For example, to communicate with deaf people I mean moari won’t help you in situations like this.

Secondly other languages are just as important. Especially jobs that include talking to different kind of people and jobs that include a lot of traveling. I think all languages should be optional in school despite how important they are. For example you learn moari in school because it’s compulsory but then you have to go study in France. Well moari won’t help you their will it?

Lastly I would like to state the fact that because of the fact that technology is changing. We have things like google translate and even the translation of different people's minds. It won’t be hard to decipher another language in the future, especially with the rate that technology is changing at. For example, if we don’t understand a youtube video, we just click on subtitles and go to auto translate. Their we go we can understand it now!

So in conclusion, I think that moari should not be compulsory in schools but it should be optional. I would also like to state that I am not in anyway against, learning moari. I love the culture but I think that it wouldn’t be fair to make it compulsory.

Should Children get a say in Politics

Politics? Something adults say ‘is rubbish’. Us kids, we usually don’t know what they are talking about, but sometimes we have our own opinions and ideas should be heard. Three reasons kids should have a say in politics!

Firstly, I don’t know if politicians know this, but it is the children's future they are changing. I instants your parents are going to be here in the next 20 or so years, but we will. So when a political choice is made us kids should have a say on it too. After all who would want to live in a world run by adults.

Secondly children have Ideas and opinions too. Sometimes they are useless but in other times they can be really helpful, I know the feeling when a good idea is heard our thought about. I mean that’s why at our school we have our Robotics Ropu. A place where kids can share their ideas and help each other learn create and share!

Lastly all politicians always debate on what they think right even if it’s not the best choice but children chose what they think is fair. For example have your heard the saying ‘honesty is the best policy’ this can work at a time like this when they don’t which path to take. Lots of children go by this policy including myself and I always fight for what I believin.

So in conclusion, I think kids should get a say in politics. I mean we have some important things to say but it’s not always heard, I want give voices to children of all ages to have a say in their future. Not just politics but everything!

The Debate

Task Description: This week we read a 2 texts and watched a video about Painted apple moth Spraying. It has been said that these insects are a big problem?

Many people had different says about this. After reading their opinion and reasons that support their opinion we were asked to make an information web about the debate. It was based on wether or not they should spray.

I think that they should spray in the areas where it's really bad and they can't do anything else. I also suggest they make sure their is a through research before they actually even spray anythings!
