Ko Wai Au

Today we did health and stereotypes. This time we looked at how people look at the way we look to decide our race and that it shouldn't matter because we are who we are and that can't be changed. It also should not matter if we have much knowledge of our culture. YOU DO YOU!

#Fake

Today we looked at how people change their appearance, image and identity online in order to look better or get social accept. This also ties in with our stereotypes. I included 2 stereotypes that I think society and social media inflicts on people. They are both Stereotypes that standards that I don't meet, and I'm okay with that. But this is about everyone that it not okay with that and feel as though they are obligated to fulfil people expectations.

3D Shapes!

Today in team 5 we looked at 3D shapes again. This time we looked at Pentahedron. This time we looked at prisms and even made our own ones using pipe cleaners and straws. My favourite part of the lesson was when we learnt about Euler's Theorem which is a theory that works and makes it easier to find edges of a shape by adding the faces and vertices then taking away 2 from the answer. :))

What is a Stereotype

Today we looked at Stereotypes as part of our Health and Well-being. I love seeing how stereotypes disband and when someone goes against their stereotype. It's good to see that we don't let stereotype control who and what we are. But even so LET'S STOP STEREOTYPES!!!

Te Reo Maori (Kia Ora)

Today we had Te Reo, because the year 7's went to tech. Today we looked at different ways to say hello and goodbye both informally and formally. I liked this task, and never knew that there was so many ways to say hello and goodbye to someone in Te Reo. Looking forward to doing more YAY!

What Are 3D Shapes?

For this task, we had to group shapes as our final close of 2D shapes. We then got modeling clay and turned them into 3D shapes. After that we looked at the properties of 3D shapes, vertices, edges and faces. I enjoyed this task and am looking forward to improve my knowledge in geometry.

All Rivers Flow to the Sea

Today, we learnt about clauses. We also looked at how writing in certain ways can real give a feel and a tone to your story. I also attempted to write like this author, and my story is somewhat a horror story. It may or may not include bloodshed. I enjoyed reading and writing this way, because it tells the story, but the ready still needs to make it click. It also easier to understand the characters emotion looks and tone with this kind of writing. :))

Things We Should Say More Often

Today we finished off all the Te Whare Tapa Wha Challenges. For this task we had to share three things we hope to say more often. These are things that will lift our mood and help us mentally physically spiritually and socially.

~Different TriANGLES~

Today in maths we looked at different triangles and angles. This is important because Tri means 3 and angle means angle, so triangle means three angles. There are 3 main ways to identify a triangle by the length of its size. Equilateral has all equal sides, isosceles have 2 equal sides and 1 different a scalene triangle is a triangle with no equal sides. There are also 3 ways to identify an Angle an Obtuse angles is bigger than a 90 degrees which is a quarter but smaller than 180 degrees. An Acute angle is smaller than 90 degrees and a reflex triangle is bigger than 180 degrees but smaller than 360 degrees.

For this task we just had to name and show all of our knowledge in triANGLES. This was kind of a recap from something we learn in yr 6 and some of the stuff we learnt last year. :))

The Water Cycle

Today we looked at the Hydrosphere and we looked at the Water cycle specifically. There are 7 major parts in the continuous cycle known as the water cycle. This relates to our term wide theme known as the Living Earth.

Dear Mum... Thank You!

Thank you, mum for everything you've done throughout lockdown. For this task we had to write a letter to our someone in our buble, that was amazing and we appreciated during lockdown. My mum was the best person ever she worked all day and still managed to put food on our plates every night! THANK YOU MUM :)

Hellos and Goodbyes

For this task, we had to write a hello goodbye poem, to talk about how thing have changed, for the better and maybe not the best. I like how I get, to see my friends school and classrooms but I will and already do miss, stay up and sleeping in. I already miss netflix and waffle breakfasts, but that's okay, it's good that Covid-19 it almost officially over and that we can get on with our lives, YAY! :))

What If

Here is an extra literacy task, from Ms Stones. For this task we had to highlight the Subject and Verb from different sentences. We also got a story beginning and we had to choose a top and write about it. My story is about vampires were wolves and witches, but this is a long term story so there will be more coming later on.

Washing Your Hands

This week in literacy, we looked at washing our hands. There are many important things we need to remember while washing our hands, take our time, use clean soap, make sure you clean everywhere. Washing our hands are very important especially in a time like this, when we need to be super strict on the health and hygiene rules. For this task we had to read, and take notes on a text we were given we then had to, use our notes to write an informative 3 sentence summary, and a diagram showing what to do when washing our hands. This was a fun task to do, and even whilst writing this, I have squeaky clean hands :))

Quadrilaterals and Parallelograms

Today we had maths in the middle block we looked at parallel line and quadrilateral. We also did a recap on polygons and we did a quiz on it too. I liked this lesson, and it definitely is helping me improve my knowledge in geometry. I can't wait to learnt more!

No Hea Koe ~Te Reo Maori~

Today, the year 7's went to tech, which means that we had Maori and sport for the year 8's. We learnt a new phrase 'Where are you from?'. I didn't make it to the classes, because of prefects, but completing the work, was a lot of fun and the video at the end helped us pronounce the words better.

Making A Wrap

Today we had to share our healthy lunch with, you guys. Here is a simple recipe that me and my family made during the isolation period, it quick and easy, ENJOY!

Polygons

Today we were in Maths class and we continued to look at our geometry and shapes. We looked at polygons and how the it's names Poly-gon means Many-angles. This means the Penta-gon means 5 angles. We also learnt what makes a polygon, well a polygon, closed up, straight lines, ect. I enjoyed this task and really think this will improve and expand my knowledge. Geometry  is a subject I really want to improve in.

~Taha Whanau Challenge~ (Fun Facts)

Everyday we will be doing different Te Whare Tapa Wha Challenges. These will most likely be the ones we've been doing in the holidays. It will be fun to have another attempt at them, and I'm looking forward to completing more of them. Here is one of them, this one is 6 fun facts about my mum. She is a very good mother.

Shapes...The belong together

Today in maths we continued to look at geometry and properties of a shape. This time we focused on how we can group shapes. This also had something to do with how shapes are similar but still have there own properties and different ways they are related.

A Guide To Earth's Inner-Core

The Earth's Inner Core, is the very heart of the Earth. It's responsible for many things and most importantly the Geosphere. Here is everything you need to know about the Earth's Inner-Core. This was a literacy task, that I've been meaning to do for a while, but it's taken me a while to complete it because I wanted it to be high quality and easy to read and understand. It isn't 100% the best I could've done but seeming that the circumstances, we've been very busy lately, so I hope you enjoyed. WE'RE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL NEXT WEEK YAY! :))

Which One Doesn't Belong

Today, we memorized the properties of different shape, by looking at how each shape is different from the others. It was an moderately easy task to complete, but it did test and get my thoughts going. It definitely helped and tested my knowledge on shapes and geometry.

The Origin of Earth's Water

Water has been around for many years and nobody knows exactly where it came from. We use it everyday it cover a lot of our earth makes up 60% of us, so why is it such a mystery of how it so easily comes out of our taps, showers and drink bottles today. For this task we had to take notes from a video and summarise what we learnt before and after watching it. I liked this task because it helped us practice note taking and finding the key idea and, it was easier to see how our knowledge grew from that video.

The Origins of Water

Today we did some writing in literacy, all week we've been learning about water, and how it might've come to be on our earth. Water has been around for many years and nobody knows exactly where it came from. We use it everyday it cover a lot of our earth makes up 60% of us, so why is it such a mystery of how it so easily comes out of our taps, showers and drink bottles today?

Shapes...They're Everywhere!

Today in maths we went a little bit into geometry, we looked at the properties of different shapes, we looked at symmetry and how shapes are found in daily lives. For the task we had to take pictures of different shapes and items in our house we also had to name the properties of different shapes and how we identify them.

Kei hea a Amo ~Te Reo Maori~

This week in moari, we learnt a few more phrases. I actually enjoyed this one, we had to fill in the blanks and at the end film a video. Firstly my pronunciation isn't the best because I speak three other languages that isn't moari make it my fourth language. Also I'm sorry if about how bad quality my video is but it's a fun skit to show my learning from today. I hope you still enjoy it!

Revision and Recap :))

Today we recapped some of the stuff we learnt earlier in the year. It was great to recap on things especially since, this is the part of the year we're we forget most of the stuff, while we cover new things. This task was, fun and easy to do, it was also pretty straight forward.

The Hydrosphere

Here is what we learnt about in home room this week on Friday. We learnt about the Hydrosphere, which relates to our term wide theme We Are the World. I am enjoying this pretty very much, and had fun learning about this one in specific. But it's mainly because I can tell how this one relates to the Biosphere. I also enjoyed this because it allowed me to find something from way back when and it actually helped me, remember and recognize some of the knowledge we were learning. Does the Water Cycle ring a bell, yup I learnt that in year 5 and it was SUPER FUN! so it was cool to revisit that part of my past.

Different Biomes and The Biosphere ~Extension~

This week, we learnt about the Biosphere, in extension. We looked at ecosystems, climates, animals and how this all works. We also looked at how the biosphere is made up of parts from all the other sphere such as the Atmosphere, Geosphere and Hydrosphere. We are continuing to learn discuss and research in depth what all of these are. I'm pretty happy with this task, in which we had to answer some questions and research a couple different biomes. Enjoy!

Leaves and Life ~Science~

This week in tech, we looked at leaves photosynthesis and plants. We looked at exactly what happens during when a plant makes does photosynthesis, the process of how they make food and oxygen. Plants are very important because they make oxygen and breathe in carbon dioxide, they are also the beginning of every food chain. I enjoyed this task, and my knowledge of plants and leaves has been extend a lot, over the past two weeks.

Goodbye Graphs

Well, it's good to finally be moving on from graphs. For this task we basically had to read and make conclusions on graphs, except the fact that most graphs had somewhat of an issue with them, made that a bit trickier. I did like this tasks and think that we covered statistics quite thoroughly through the past few weeks. I'm glad we are finally going to move on to another part of maths.

Tuesday 5 May 2020

Te Reo Maori (He Tino Pai)

Today in our tech rotations we had a moari class. We learnt how to have a conversation and share our opinion on things. It was fun and at the end I filmed a video with me and my sister. I had loads of fun and pretty soon I may become Bi-lingual wouldn't that be fun. Tune in again next week for more!

Inside of the Earth ~Note Taking~

Today in literacy we practiced note taking. We did this in groups I work with Kahurangi. Together we skimmed through 2 paragraphs of a text we were assigned. We then made note from them. During this task I learnt to things. Keep it short and sharp, and just get the key information. I'm looking forward to to learning more and getting better at taking notes, because this will be a key skill we'll need in the years ahead.

Which Graph?

This week we did more on graphs and statistics. There was one graph that absolutely suprised me and even confused me a bit, so today during Maths I will most likely ask about it. It was the Box and Whisker graph, I think we learnt a little bit about it last year, but we didn't do much. Overall I'm feeling pretty good about statistics. For this present a we had to answer the question and comeplete the activities it was pretty straight forward and easy to complete.

Volcanic Eruption

This week we are learning about the Earth, and Tectonic plates. Tectonic plates are pieces of lands that broke apart two hundred million years ago. We are learning about this because it relates to our term wide theme We Are The World. Throughout this term we are going to be looking at the Geosphere Atmosphere Biosphere and Hydrosphere. Tectonic plates relate to something we learnt about last week the Geosphere. Tectonic plates are also related to the Earth's Crust, volcanoes and Earthquakes. It's all very interesting, see the presentation above for more.

Plants ~Science~

This week in Science during tech we learnt about plants and photosynthesis. The process of how plants grow and make there own food. I learnt heaps about this and really enjoyed this topic. My favourite bit was learning the chemical equation. Overall I have to say that I  have a new respect for plants and anything that makes oxygen for us.

The Atmosphere

Today we learnt about the Atmosphere. This ties in with our term wide them the living earth. I found out some pretty interesting things, and during our class discussion we did have many things about Climate change and the Ozone layer come up. It was all quite fascinating, I was looking forward to doing the Atmosphere, even though it is something we have learnt quite a bit about already.

Earth's Structure

This week, we learnt about the Earth's Structure. And in more detail, the video we watched was very informative, and I pretty sure I'm improving in making word groups. It was also good to practice taking notice again, but we did that a lot last year so I already had the upper-hand in that. I learnt some pretty interesting things and for this task we had to most make word groups of the text and summarise key information.
