Zaeeda-SLJ-#Day 3 (Team Players)

Week 1: Physical Limits
Day 3: Team Player
This is the third day, and the first week of the Summer Learning Journey. I'm so excited to go an amazing journey once again. I did struggle a bit yesterday but let's hope we do better today. Today is mainly focusing on sports and physical activities.

So Far this week we have learnt about a Polynesian voyage, exploring and looking into our diversities and backgrounds and giving to charities and people that need it. We have also learnt about persevering and chasing our dreams and to never give up. Yesterday we learnt about 3 brave people Amelia Earhart, Jean Batten and Neil Armstrong. But let's get on with today!

Activity 1: Rugby Superstars
For this task we were asked to imagine what we'd do if we were a superhero. What are three superpowers we'd have and what we'd use them for?

Jonah Lomu is a Rugby Superstar and is considered a real life superhero. He's strong tall and fast. He was also one of the youngest All blacks player, he started at age 19. Jonah grew up in a Tongan family in the South-Auckland Mangere. He played touch and league in school but changed to union in order to rise to fame.

Another real life superhero is Riche McCaw a famous and my favorite rugby player. He was the captain of the All Blacks 2004-2015. He led the All Blacks to many great victories and gave us all something to celebrate. He was, hard working and served the team well. He was a real team player!

If I were a superhero I would want strength, both physically and physiologically. I would want to be able to come up with ideas and have the strength to make them become a reality. If I needed to burst a pipe deep underground, to stop a fire in the building. I would have the strength to do so.

I would also want the ability to read minds. This would help, words and information out of people without having people know or even have to speak. This could help solve mystery cases, and find out people motives and things like that. It would very interesting and, somewhat a thrilling adventure.

Lastily I would like to have a ability to change my pace, so when needed I can be super fast at any task anywhere, or I can be super slow. I don't see how we'd ever need to be slow, except when being patient. But being fast can have it's perks I could catch bad guys, and stop things from happening just before they're about to happen. I'll also be able to get more task done in a small time frame.

Activity 2: Defying The Odds

Kalani Purcell, she is a 24 year old basket-ball player. She is a New Zealand basket-ball player, Kalani Purcell has signed 2 deals with the Melbourne Boomers in the Women National Basket-ball League.

Questions
- What Inspired you to play basket-ball?
- Were you interested in any other sports?
- What was the worst challenge you faced?
-  What is you favorite part about being a sports-star?
- Was there anything else you wanted to do when you were younger?

Activity 3: Achieving Our Dreams
For this task were asked to find out a dream job of a family member. We then had to come up with 6 ways we can support that family member and help them pursue their dream.

That brings us to an end, of today's summer learning journey activities. I did enjoy these tasks and found them a lot easier to do. However, I did have to put in a lot of thought and still worked hard. Overall can't wait to do more!

  1. Hello Zaeeda!

I love how well thought out your reasons are for choosing those superpowers. If you could only pick one of those to help you in battle, what would it be?

The ways you have listed to help out your little sister are definitely going to help her!

    Sincerely,
    Riiana

  2. Kia ora Zaeeda,

It is lovely meeting you! I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?

This is my first year joining the Summer Learning Journey, and I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs.

I’m really looking forward to summer, aren't you? In my spare time I like spending time at the beach and hanging out with my friends. I also enjoy going for walks and I absolutely love cooking and baking. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

Thank you for completing these activities to such an amazing standard. These were so awesome to read. My favourite activity you completed was about how you would support your sister so she can achieve her dream of becoming a flight attendant. It sounds like you're an incredibly kind and supportive sister. I like the idea of helping her set goals so she can easily stay on track!

What is your dream job, Zaeeda? I'd love to hear about it :)

  3. Hi Zaeeda,
I liked how you said that you'd want super strength, the ability to read minds and super speed so you could save help people trapped and solve crimes. I also liked how you said that you'd earn money to pay for your sister's studies. What's your dream career?
