Throughout this week, we are going to be learning about, how people changed the world through sport and exploration. These people are both inspirational and influential and have some amazing lessons too teach. I'm very excited, let's start!

Activity 1: Setting Sail
Our first task is too make a list of the ten food items I would take on a three week voyage.

This voyage took place way back in the 70's when our ancestors invisioned and built this an amazing canoe says Nainoa Thompson. They aren't here now but, their creation has gone a long way. It's been on many voyages one being the Naoni a three week voyage, at which you will spend at sea. This voyage to 16 years of consideration before it was decided that they will actaully carry out this task.

Almost 3 years ago, Nainoa Thompsan arrived at our very Pt England Reserve. Yes, the one that we go to every year for our annual picnics. The one we had gotten our flounder from, and place we saw the Hikianalia and Hōkūleʻa. I was in year 5 and remember it like it was yesterday. That was a truly amazing day, and it inspired our school so much we named our sports houses after the canoes, Hikianalia Hōkūleʻa, Hine Moana and Te Aurere/
One this voyage if I could take ten food items it would be, pasta, nuts, dried fruits, cows, milk, rice, eggs, canned food, cookies and lollies. some of these items seem quite absurd and crazy, but since im a picky eater, I have to make the most of what I do eat.
I would take pasta as you can make many dishes with it easily, and it won't go bad over a long period of time, in this case three weeks. Nuts and dried frust are also a good idea because of the fact that they are delicous healthy and there's not much work to do in keeping the fresh and good to eat. I would believe it or not take a cow on a voyage. It may take up room but it will give us milk when it's alive and meat later. Rice is a good item to take overseas to as it's dry and easy to transport. Canned food, may not be the healthiest but it's easy to keep edible. Cookies and lollies are probably not a good idea but a snack from time to time is needed.
Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa
For this task we are asked to, search our family backgrounds and share the varieties of backgrounds we came from, and where your family dates back too.
Most of my family comes from Fiji, may parents are from fiji and so are my grandparents, great grandparents and event here parents. So my family has goes back generations in Fiji, I couldn't orginate where exactly they where from before there cause my family has lived in Fiji for a long time. However me and all my siblings are the first generation to be born overseas. The only reason I was born overseas was because my grandfather had come here as a kid with a reason regarding buisness. This was quite interesting to find out!
Activity 3: Scaling New Heights
In this task we are asked to chose a charity from the 4 options we were given. When then had to read and learn as much as possible about the charity of our choice.
The charity I chose is the SPCA, a charity that helps rescue and find new homes for animals, that have gone threw some hard times. There are many animals and the money they get from giving aways these animals to good owners is used again to rescue other animals in need.

And that concludes the first day of the summer learning journey. I have already learnt heaps and can't wait to learn a whole lot more, throught a course of the next 6 weeks.
Hi Zaeeda this is Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani and I'll be commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. Why did you pick the SPCA? Do you have pets at home? We have x2 cats and x3 fish... Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep your learning up over the school break!
ReplyDeleteHi Zaeeda ,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for completing Day 1 of the Summer Learning journey Program. May god Continue to guide you and lead you in everything you do. Hope your having a great Holiday.

Talofa lava Zaeeda.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are so pretty to look at! I love how you created a family tree instead of writing it out!
Kind regards,
Riiana
Hi Zaeeda,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you said that it was interesting to find out how your family migrated here from Fiji, and that you and your siblings are the first generation of your family to be born outside of Fiji. I also liked how you said that you'd take lots of dried food with you on a voyage. If you could pick more items, what else would you want to bring?
