Matariki

Today we had a Matariki Day at School.
Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars called the pleiades. The celebration Matariki is the first rising of these cluster of stars. It’s a harvest festival that takes place nearing the end of Winter. While everything is getting ready for the time ahead of them. Argo Matariki is the marking point for the New Year and the New Growth.

The Pleiades are the cluster of seven stars. Many people debate on whether or not there are 7 or 9 stars. The Maori constellations states that there are 7 stars Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waitī, Waitā, Waipunā-ā-rangi and Ururangi.The Greek constellation includes 9 stars. Including Hiwa-i-te-rangi and Pōhutukawa.

At school we have celebrated Matariki in many different and fun ways. One of them being our Matariki fun days. The whole school splits up into different classes a mix of yr 1-8 student. Then you spend the whole day doing either, Sport, Cooking, Crafts, Movie Making.

On Friday our school did our Annual Matariki Fun Day. I was put into Arts and Craft, despite the fact that it wasn't my first choice so I was a little skeptical about being in Art and Crafts, mostly because my arts and craft skill haven't improve much.

When arriving at room 7 which would be my class for the day. The rest of the group was there too; Me, Tha-Zin, Leilani, Te Rangimarie, Taliyah, Kauri, Josh and Paschal were all from the senior block so a good chunk of the group would be made up of seniors.

Mr Goodwin let us into the class and explained what we were going to be doing. We were to make a galaxy art in which we had to add a matariki quote onto afterwards. I quite enjoyed doing this it was fun and didn't take to long. We had all finished nearing the end of the middle block. Me and Tha-Zin also got to talk a lot about High-School and our time in Mr Goodwin's Class.

The day went by very quickly and reflecting on it now. It wasn't too bad. I this would have to be my favourite Matariki Group. And I just realized that this was my last Matariki Day, it's a bittersweet feeling. But for everyone who's going to be doing these in the future good luck and make the most of it. ;)

Write the scene

Task Description: This week we learn't about dialouge. A dialogue was is the conversation between to character we also had to write a script. Once we had finished writing the scripted we got a buddy and acted it out in front of the class.This was alot of fun and good practice for our pubic speaking skills. I like this task cause we got to act and it made us really think about what we wrote. I Hope Enjoy!

P.E.S Campers

Walt: Write a recount that you how thankful we are about camp and the people that didn't go
Task Description: Last week the year 6's went to camp I was one of the people that didn't go to camp. Here is my recount about what we did while the year 6's were at camp. I hope you enjoyed we enjoyed this task and having the whole space to ourself. I also enjoyed how the class was so calm and we could do things and not have problems with it and our timetable was what ever goes.

Haunted Hazard

Walt: Get excited to about year 6 camp

It was the day me and my friends were going to see Kawau Island and it’s wonderful inhabitants, so was all the year 6’s for 2018 at Pt England school. But nothing is as is seems at Kawau Island Four campers from the group will find a dark side of this Mysterious Island. Will they survive this Crazy Camp?

“Yay! I can’t wait to arrive at camp” I exclaimed not knowing what was waiting for us on the Island “I know right” Jedida replied as she pulled her suitcase onto the ferry. They found to seats next to Tha-zin and Roshaan “ Hey Tha-zin I heard the Mansion on Kawau Island is Haunted by the ghost of Governor Hobson” Roshaan said as she saw Jedida and Zaeeda sit down “maybe we invite the ghost to have candy with us at night when everyone's asleep” Zaeeda said pulling a block of cadbury M&M chocolates from her bag. They ferry stopped and they walked onto the docks of Kawau island, “Okay team quite down” said 2 loud and clear voices from in front of us. “Welcome to Kawau Island at this camp we will be doing team building activities this may be hard but I don’t want any complaining and in case you didn’t know my name is Erin” said the tall figure standing in front of us “ and my name is Peter but now we are going to hike up killer hill so get ready” He said grinning. “ I am so excited” I whisper jedida as we start walking in a line “Me too” she whispers back.

Once we finished hiking and spent the rest of the day doing fun activities but nightfall came and we were exhausted. “Today's activities were so much fun”  Tha-zin says as Me and her walk back to our cabin “yeah fun right’’ I say sarcastically “ I am exhausted” I say back to her.  They walked into the cabin and I pulled out my block of chocolate ready for a midnight feast “YEAH” they all shierked together “SSSSHHHHH” I hissed “remember Mr Somerville's talk about 10% of the candy” Roshaan whispers Quietly.  The Next day they had did kayaking, hiking ,swimming and heaps of other cool activities with Peter and Erin. “I really wish we could do today over again it was so much fun” Jedida said to Roshaan and I  walked to lunch together “yeah it was so much fun but did you notice the teachers are acting weird today” I  said looking over her behind her and seeing Miss Parrant half asleep and Mr Goodwin with his eighth cup of coffee “I agree” Roshaan replied “ let’s ask them why they are so jumpy and asleep today” Jedida suggested “ok” Me and Roshaan replied together.

After lunch they walked up to Mr Goodwin who was sitting on a standing up talking to some boys about fortnite, Once he finished I decided to try and be polite and ask “ Mr Goodwin why are you and the other teachers so jumpy and half asleep today?” “ Me and the other teacher kept hearing noises in the Mansion it kept us awake all night” He replied then going back to the topic of fortnite with the boys. The girls walked away in silence and in deep thought “Maybe it was the ghost of Governor Hobson” Jedida joked “Actually you might be right” Zaeeda exclaimed.

That evening Zaeeda and Tha-zin walked into there cabin together only to find Jedida and Roshaan giggling and chatting in the corner “What’s up”? I asked suspiciously “you know how we were talking about the inviting the ghost of Governor Hobson to eat candy well” Jedida says allowing me and Tha-zin to build up some suspense Roshaan continued “ We did some research and found out that Governor Hobson isn’t dead yet he’s but he did go last week” Roshaan said mysteriously “ OOOOHhhhh I get it  now, you guys want to go and find out why there is a ghost roaming the mansion” Tha-zin says brightly with wide eyes “good Idea I want In” Me and Tha-zin literally yelled they both agreed and found jobs to do. It was 10:00 pm and Jedida was sitting on a tree branch Roshaan was sneaking to the front door of the mansion. Tha-zin was sitting on the roof of the cabin keeping an eye out for any campers our teacher about to bust us and I was sittin inside the cabin looking through binoculars giving instructions on the plan and  eating more M&M chocolate. Roshaan snuck into the Mansion and unlocked the door for back door for Jedida they snuck into they waited for 2 hours straight, when the clock struck twelve a tall pale figure came out of a from a secret cupboard that faded away into the walls of the mansion. 



The figure walked towards the kitchen and grabbed out a really big knife the light of the kitchen was on and the only thing visible to the girls was his shadow and some type of thick liquid type of juice that bounced everywhere when he brought the knife down.  The girl screamed in horror so I sent Tha-zin over to see if they were alright “Tha-zin Tha-zin please come in we need you to report to Haunted scene (Mansion) ” I screeched as I took another bite of the delicious goodness into the walkie talkie “Roger that” a voice said. Tha-zin soon arrived at the scene and walked into the kitchen by accident and saw that the ghost was dicing a tomato “but why Tha-zin wondered. Roshaan noticed something weird on the ground we the ghost had been she crawled over to it and got a sample into to a bag she then alerted me and I was already on my way I had got a backup agent to stay at home base. I ran over there and when I arrived all my friend were hiding in the living room staring at the shadow in fascination, I looked at the sample of white powder Roshaan had collected I took one look at it and thanks to the baking lessons my mom had been giving me I immediately said “it’s flour you know the type you put in cakes and stuff” I said to the others.

 In horror Jedida yelled he’s on a move we followed him into a room where we heard shrieks, shrieks of Mr Goodwin they were of both laughter and fear. We peeked through the door and saw the ghost running around trying to scare Mr Goodwin but he is to intrigued in his game of fortnite he see the ghost and laughs but shrieked when he starts to lose in fortnite. “What should we do” Roshaan whispered desperately “I don’t know” Tha-zin replied “I know” a voice behind them said It was Amira and she was holding sponges and a bucket of water “Remember that time we threw sponges at our teacher for our writing  test well we could do the same to the ghost to get the flour of him and reveals the true identity of this so called ghost. We each took turns loading up our sponges and throwing them at the ghost it took some time but we finally got the flour off Governor Hobson.

It turned out he was sleepwalking and woke him up by throwing wet sponges at him he told us that had took a sleeping pill before cause he couldn’t fall asleep but it didn’t work for a while he  soon forgot about it and started baking a cake for his wife he was baking a cake for his wife when he fell asleep. “So that explains the flour” I say not very surprised “but what explains the sleep walking”? Roshaan stated “Hahaha I do that every night since I was a wee boy” The Governor replied with a cheesy grin “ok now I better get tidying up and you better get to back to your cabin and as for your teacher I will be turning off the mansions power no more fortnite for him” The Governor said will a sweet smile the girls giggled and returned to their cabin. “Wow we had such a crazy night” Amira exclaimed climbing back into bed “Amira you do know that it’s 4:00 am  and we better get up now” I says trying not to offend her “Dang it” Roshaan said standing back up “we should keep this on a down low” I say “I agree replied Jedida “okay come on we better head out” Tha-zin yauwned reaching for the door.

The rest of the day the girls we really tired and this time the teachers asked them why we were all half asleep. The day to return back to school came and we were cleaning out our cabin we walked into the cabin and saw on the wall by the window there was writing on it PLEASED\ TO HAUNT YOU! The girls looked at each other and where silent for quite a while. “Do you think it was for real”? Tha-zin asked me “probably not” I replied uncomfortably but in my head I knew that it probably was for real and one day it would return and not to Kawau Island but to Pt England School BUT THAT’S A STORY FOR ANOTHER DAY!

Task Description: For this task we got given three story startes and we had to come up with the rest of the story. This story was based on the camp the year 6's are going on soon. I enjoyed this task however I did consider not being in it and just talking to the character on a walkie talkie but I kinda would kinda be hard to see how my friends act when I am not around so yeah. Anyway I hope you enjoyed!

Tricky Decimals Problems 2

Task Description: For this task we had to add and subtract decimals. I this task was not too hard but I think I and do more practice on this. I hope we do more on deciamls and I want to learn further on decimals. I didn't work with anyone for this task because I didn't find it too hard, here is the gold medal problems there is still the silver and bronze so check them out and leave me a comment THANKS!

Task Description: For this task we had to add decimals. This Task was pretty easier but I did have some trouble on the second qeustion. This time I didn't work with anyone but because this was my second time doing this task so I decided to work on my own. Here is the silver task there is the bronze and gold tasks too so don't for get to check those to out too ENJOY!

Sponge Throw

Walt: Sucsessfully write a recount.

Wow our teachers are pretty crazy, they had such an unbelievable activity ready for us. I for one think that Mr Goodwin might have had more than 1 cup of coffee this morning. It was around 10:00 am in the morning and me and my classmates were throwing sponges at our teacher. 

This Morning we weren’t as happy as usual because yes we had our writing test I was pretty nervous. But there was one good side to this we had to write about something and whatever it was we were doing it with our friends so we were gonna have fun. One of the first things we did was walk down to the bottom field were we saw Mr Jacobson and Mr Somerville waiting for us with buckets and sponges, I am gonna be honest I thought that we might be washing cars. Luckily the we were gonna be using them for something else something AWESOME.

We saw three chairs and also saw our teacher wearing swimming gear, a clear image of what was gonna happen appeared in my mind. Next we went got into 3 lines in front of three buckets 3 buckets for every class. We got explain what to do, which was kind of boring but it was quick, and soon we were throwing our sponges at our teachers crazy right. But the class that got their teacher the most wet got to tip the buckets of water on their teacher. I think that this was kind of weird but I was happy because we could finally get back at Mr Goodwin for telling us about fortnight and N.R.L during class.

When It was my turn I dunked my sponge in the bucket of water for a while so it would get nice and wet, but I missed sadly so instead I ringed the sponge out on his head instead yay go me.  Anyways the second time it was my turn I hit him in the arm which was good but compared to Loseti’s throw that hit Mr Goodwin in the face mine was nothing. Another time Chance hit him in the chest and Paschal’s throw wasn’t pleasant for Mr Goodwin either it was hilarious I was apart of the shrieks of laughter when that happened. I laughed so much my cheeks and my stomach hurt and we made a lot of punny puns and jokes it was so much FUN!

Once we finished we got to pick the three People who wet their teacher the most to tip the buckets of water on their teacher. We all the classes got to do it because we pretty much tied so we were all winners. I thought the our was the worst at throwing the water because Paschal's bucket fell on the grass so he just put all the bucket on Mr Goodwin Head. I found this really funny so did the other because that’s when everyone burst out in laughter.

Something else that I found funny was the today I wore a starfish sticker on my hand for no reason and then we played with water funny right. I couldn't believe the teacher let us do this and for not a really good reason and no pay back wow that was really something but the teacher did get us back when it rained at morning tea oh well it was still fun. It was quite weird and a real surprise!

I think that this was really fun and even more fun because we got to share it with our friends. I think that we should do this again hopefully Paschal’s throw won’t be that unpleasant next time. I definitely recommend this too you just make sure you have permission first and I can’t wait to do more things like this!

Task Description: A few days ago we had our writing test which wasn't very exciting. I was really nervous anyways here is the writing we did after we edited it and everthing. This task was not hard and really fun espacially we go to throw wet sponges at our teachers. Task Description: For this task we had worked with decimals again. This time round I didn't work with anyone because I found it pretty easy to work on my own. I like this task and hope to do more tasks like this in the future!

Start Of A New Term

Walt: use correct sentences to help structure our writing.

Today is the first day back at school and already so much has happened. I  caught up with my friends, we also had a CRAZY immersion assembly. It was really something!

We have heaps of events coming up this term, I can hardly wait. My favourite would be the Manaiakalani Film Festival , you know when the whole school goes to the cinemas in sylvia park pretty cool right. Another would be athletic day my goal for that would be to come at least top three or four in shot put.

My goals for this term it to improve my sketching skills a little bit more because I am super close. Another goal I want to reach would be to finish my silent reading book by Roald dahl Charlie and the chocolate factory, I am up to the bit where they meet the ompa lompas and a boy falls into the chocolate river.

I am hoping to do more on decimals and fractions, in maths. I also want to do water painting like Tha Zin and tie dying because when you tie dye you it so colourful and bright. I also want to use pastel colours to colour things, because when you blend pastel colour it is very beautiful!

Overall term 4 will be an enthusiastic term. I am siked about this term and just I can’t wait till athletics day, I hope I reach all my goals, I also hope we learn about art I just can’t wait. I can’t wait to blog some more.

Task Description

Task Description: Today we did a speed typing test, then collected data and sorted it. We put the data on a graph then we go to customise it. For the test we had to write as many words we could write in a minute. My score was 37 words it was the second highest amount of words in the class and Leilani got 39. I like this task because we experimented and we had to follow instructions then we had to do it and this task was fun and easy!

Goat Island

Hi there I’m Susan Manawa and I am 11 years old, I live with my parents.I have a few friends and now that I have spent half a year her in Lycka Stad I have really fit in. My Favourite thing to do is to make little projects and for myself, yes I have to admit I am a bookworm some might even say a book slug cause I always have a book. My mom is a realestate agent and my dad is a builder my parents are really strict.





It’s Monday morning and I am on my way to school, My dads driving me my mom starts early. I am sitting in the back seat staring out at the kids walking to school. I felt super tired cause I stayed up video chatting with my friends. We hit some traffic and I take this as a chance to get a bit of shut eye. As soon as I felt the sound of my friends I woke up, I leaped out of the car said goodbye and went to join my friends, we gave each other hugs and waves as we walked over to class, I watched at my dad speed away in the fog until he was only a dot in the distance.





The Bell rings and we all everyone gathered on our big mat, I sat in the front row with my friend Marie. I watched and listened as my teacher carefully spoke. I was drifting off to sleep when my Marie elbowed me “did you hear that?” She asked “no” I replied a annoyed because she woke me up. Marie didn’t mind but she made me listen, “we are going to goat island” the teacher said I have a few notices for you collect them from your teachers when you return to your classes.





For the rest of the day Susan and Marie couldn’t sit still, at home time they walked home together, Marie didn’t live to far she lived around the block from Susan's house. Susan to the door waved to her friend then disappeared inside, “DAD” she yelled “Up Here her dad yelled from on the roof. Susan ran outside “dad could I please go to goat Island my whole team is going and I really wanna go” she pleaded. As soon as Susan finished dad came down and said “sorry you can’t go it isn’t safe and also remember we have food issues, Susan sadly walked upstairs. Sometimes Susan would think her parents do love her anymore.





She went to her laptop, and searched how to change parents minds. She found a interesting hack and decided to try it out. She did all her chores and got busy in the kitchen. Her plan was to make her parents see she is a good kid and bribe them to let her go. She would even pay the money for he to go, Susan thought it was an offer they couldn’t refuse to. The just had dinner and she sat them down and brought out a delicious chocolate pastry cake. “Mom dad could you please reconsider the facts of sending me to camp at Goat Island please” she said in a cool and calm voice trying to hide her excitement, her parents shot her a look they looked at each other and sighed they finally said “fine” said together “YAY” Susan said as she danced happily!







The next day the year sixes were going to camp Susan took her bag and she was off to camp with the other year six’s. When they arrived at Goat Island they unpacked the and went for a swim, they were about to jump into the water when a goat came up and head buffs the pufferfish as it is in the air if puffs up. Susan and her friends all laughed and shouted as they swam in the water Susan has swam out to a little when a dolphin swam up as, soon as it did the dolphin did a MEGA FART, Susan couldn’t help cracking up. Susan was super glad she went to camp!

Task Description: This Week we had to write a funny story, this was kind of hard but it was a great way to test out our writing skills. My story is about a girl going to camp and it was inspired by the fact that Pt  englands year 6's are going to camp in November. I hope you enjoyed !
