Taha Tinana (Challenge)

Here is today Te Whare Tapa Wha Challenge. We had to play a game called Matimati. I enjoyed it, because it was fun and tested my reflexes. It's also really easy to play and you can do it anywhere.

I played with my little sister and well, it took a few tries before we even got close to being good. We're going to have to work hard playing this game, in order to get really good but for now it's okay.

Another reason this game is great is because it gets you moving during isolation. It also get you interacting more with some of the people in your bubble. However I don't think this would be a good game to play during social distancing.

Great to see you and your sister trying out the traditional Māori game, Matimati. You could raise the skill level and try to tap your opponent on the shoulder, waist or knees! You could even set a time limit to see how many taps you each got in say 1 minute - however you play, Matimati is a fun way to get some exercise and improve your reaction times! Great job!

    Take care,
    Ms. Tapuke

  3. Kia Ora Zaeeda,

I really enjoyed watching the video you made for this "Taha Challenge" about using your tinana (body). You're right it is a great way to stay active during the lockdown with your whanau.
Thank you for sharing and keep up the great mahi that you are doing.

    Nga mihi,
    Mrs Carter.

  4. Kia ora Zaeeda. What a fantastic blog post. I like how you introduced the video and then reflected on when it would be appropriate to play this game. Maybe you could write a brief description of the rules so other people can have a go? I remember learning another good traditional game called hipitoitoi. Have you heard of it?
