Day 1: Bookworms
Welcome back to the last week, let's make the most of this week and do some amazing learning. There is also only a few days left in these holidays so let's make the most of that too. I had actually made a small mistake while I was doing last week I had actually thought there were 6 weeks when there were 4 weeks, so I had actually thought I wasn't going to be able to finish. But I'm glad that I will be able to finish and can't wait to see who gets the top blogger prize too!
Activity 1: Rags To Riches
For this task we had to create a book cover for our favourite book. We had to think about what would be on the cover and how it may relate or throw off the reader from what the story is actually about. Fonts and colors are also something important too.
J.K Rowling is one of the top authors in the world. She has written many books including the Harry Potter Book Series. Millions of copies have been sold, this has made J.K Rowling the worlds first billionaire author.
As she was writing the first Harry Potter book, she was a single mother with very little money. Writing was what she did when Jessica was sleeping. Instead of her real name (Joanne) she use her initials J.K. The publishers thought that boys wouldn't want to read the book because it was written by a women.
Over time J.K has done many more interviews and has revealed more about her as a author, and as a person in general. Oprah Winfrey, a famous television personality also interviewed J.K.
You know the metaphor "don't judge a book by it's cover" we sometimes do, when we don't have anything else to go off, it is necessary. Having an interesting cover can hook in a reader as much as a good story. But the mystery of the story is also a thrill!
My favourite book is Little Women written by Louisa May Alcott. It a book about 4 sisters that each overcame challenges throughout there lives.
My favourite part of the book was when one of the sisters, was brave enough to sacrifice her hair so they could buy medicine. They had a father that went to fight in the war. There mother had been very ill.
For the book cover I have made it quite feminist, it's light pink on the outside, with the title and authors name at the top. There is a picture I found on line in the middle. It has 4 girls who I believe are sisters with there hair braided together.
Activity 2: Romeo and Juliet
For this task we had to write a recount about what we did this morning. We then had to use a tool, to convert our normal English into shake-spears English.
William Shake-spear, was an author poet and play-writer, (1564-1616). He is mostly known for a play he wrote while he was living in England. Despite the fact that they were written a long time ago, they are still very popular because of the fact that the play talks about things that known to us. (Love, revenge confusion, betrayal, jealousy, hurt, etc.
You may have hear of some of Shake-spears plays. Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, A Midsummer Nights Dream, King Lear. Many of them have been turned into movies. Shake-spears plays where written in English, but not the same English we use today. Many of the words we use now a days were not used back in the 1600.
Normal English
This Morning, I woke up to a warm summers day. My mum had already woken, up. We had a delightful breakfast, and then started our day. Today we were planning on painting our Kitchen, so we headed to Bunnings to get some paint. After we got back home, we started painting. We finished at about mid day.
Shake-Spear English
This m'rning, i did wake up to a warmeth summ'rs day. Mine own mum hadst already woken, up. We hadst a delightful breakfast, and then did start our day. The present day we w're planning on painting our kitchen, so we head'd to bunnings to receiveth some painteth. Aft'r we did get backeth home, we did start painting. We did finish at about mid day
Activity 3: The Diary of Anne Frank
For this task we had to imagine we had a diary. We then had to write a story about the our most extraordinary days. It can be an event that actually happened or an event we made up.
In the 1930s Anne Frank was a brave girl who war born and raised in a Jewish family in Germany. When the second world war started Anne Frank and her family had to go into hiding. This was because the Politicians (Nazis) didn't like Jewish people. Her whole family living in a secret room in their home for 2 years.
While this was happening, Anne Frank kept a diary. She wrote in it ever once in a while and when the war ended Anne's father found it and turned it into a book. The title was The Diary of Anne Frank or The Diary of a Young Girl. Many people keep diaries and write down thoughts, feeling and events that have happened.
My diary entry was the day BTS my favourite K-pop group and boy-band came to our school. Obviously it was made up. But A girl can dream right!
That conclude the first day of the last week. I hope you enjoyed, I think my favourite task was the last one were we could imagine our most extraordinary day. Only 4 more days left let's make it count.
