Seven Life Processes

Do you ever wonder how to tell if something is really living? Well today I will be telling you several steps to find out if it’s alive. These steps can be used on Today we will be using the seven living processes. Also known as the M.R.S G.R.E.N, it stands for Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.

You will need / equipment:
The test subject (We are using a Tree)
Time to observe
Something to record information and finding

Movements all tree move but it’s not always so obvious. is you look closely the position of tree changes over periods of time. There are even trees that can walk up to 20m per year.

Respiration is releasing energy we find in food. Trees use this process when they absorb sunlight to make food which they then use to grow. It’s also shown when they breath in Carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen

Sensitivity is another process meaning all living organisms need sense to identify their surroundings. Trees have senses as they sense can sense light and they use it too grow.

Growth meaning all living things grow. Most animals stop growing when they are adults but trees and plants continue to grow. Trees can grow to large sizes.

Reproduction meaning giving birth to new life. There are 2 types of reproduction process asexual and sexual. Tree use asexual reprodcution, and when they give birth to seeds which then grow into seedlings.

Excretion is getting rid of waste from the body. It’s not the same as pooping, for humans it like breathing out carbon dioxide. Trees excrete when they breathe out oxygen.

The last process is nutrition, which is something we get from food. All living organisms need food to get energy and do everyday things. Trees and plants however can make their own plants meaning they don’t have to find food.

So there you have seven life processes. As you can see trees use all of these seven life processes meaning trees are living. Like is said before you can test these seven life process on anything to see if it’s living.
